Here's Why You Need to Make Your Food Available to Take Away

The takeaway market is set to swell to more than £11bn by 2022, so why not make sure your business can capture a slice of the market? Following the recent high-profile closures in the casual dining industry, there is an opportunity for smaller businesses to take advantage of a less crowded market.

While you may not necessarily be in a position to expand your premises or even open a second venture, you can certainly consider offering food delivery and takeaway services.

In a recent Nisbets Pulse Survey of more than 260 of our domestic customers, 72% said they order takeaway occasionally with 23% ordering at least once a month. Home entertainment has made staying in more appealing than days gone by, so it's time to bring your food to people's doorsteps!

How are people ordering their food?

If you haven't made your food available to order via app, now is the time to seriously consider it. With 17% of respondents ordering takeaway through apps, there is a strong demand for this capability that is only going to intensify as the younger generations grow up.

It's likely that the 53% of people ordering by phone will eventually reduce, as technology plays a bigger role in our lives and computers are replaced by even newer tech.

Whether the 30% of respondents using the internet to order will defect into the app world remains to be seen.

What is clear, however, is that you need to be visible across all platforms to ensure you're reaching as many potential customers as possible.

What are they ordering?

Chinese and Indian lead the way, with pizza also a popular dish.

Food delivery services

Using food delivery services is becoming a no-brainer for businesses wanting more exposure and the means to increase sales.

From Deliveroo to UberEats, there are plenty of options to bring your food to the masses. You'll gain exposure on the apps of these companies, as diners who many not necessarily have heard of you browse your menu.

In exchange for a percentage of the sale, these services mean you don't have to worry about employing extra staff, the cost of travel or insurance. However, you do lose an element of control over the presentation of your food.

So it's up to you to choose a company you trust to represent your business in the best possible way.
